Create a Copy | View Larger

After studying with Quizlet, Padle, and reading the story I use the storyboard. I ask them with storyboard. they answer the questions for checking the understanding.

Treasures 1.4 Meet Ben Franklin (Quizlet)

Before reading the story of Meet Ben Franklin, every student studied 50words in the story by themselves at home. Beginning of today's lesson they take a test of meaning of 50words and then we read the story. They also can predict the story on the illustrator of the story, and words too.

Treasures 1.4 Meet Ben Franklin (Padlet)

Created with Padlet

It is a Padlet for a lesson of Ben Franklin. After reading, students can summarize the story of the chaper 1and 2 of Meet Ben Franklin through this padlet. I asked some question and they answered it. At first, I click the picture and then ask them some questions.

Some materials of CALL fit my class, but not all!

I know the CALL can help both teaching and learning. Actually my students have more interest of learning English through the CALL before learning from English books. They are satisfied with some materials, programs, and sites that they can approach easily and achieve their own goals of learning.

There are so many great CALL materials, but I have to choose certain ones that can be customized for my students and my class environment. They prefer ones which help them to be self-motivated learners. In my class, they learn English only three days a week for 50minutes per each day, so they have to study more time at their homes. At the beginning of using CALL, I recommend my students to use some CALL materials at home for assignments, but it didn’t work well. Because they didn’t know the clear and explicit target and vision at which they are aiming of learning. At the time, I was under the delusion that all CALL materials are the key to self-directed, self-motivated learning. I didn’t have certain criteria that define my class goals. Although CALL can help students learn English, all CALL does not mean the student-centered and effective and interactive learning. Teachers have to know the class environment and have the criteria for their own class and students learning situation and they know the clear target of learning through the CALL.

Developing writing skills grammarly

CALL is a good place to help students writing, I recommend one program, Grammarly.
The CALL journal about writing recommend the Word processor, but I'd like to give you a chance to use Grammarly. https://sites.google.com/site/journaloftechnologyforelt/archive/vol-4-no-2-1/1

Every time in my class, I give writing assignments to elementary students. I hope that they have critical thinking and express their own thinking. Actually they have some problems to write something with using the right vocabulary and grammar. In elementary students class, I usually don’t teach English grammar and structures a lot for their first 1~2years English class. And I let them write only 5 sentences for any topics. Most students don’t want to write even English words on the page. They don’t want to write their mother language, neither. Anyway, five sentences for writing helps them to reduce their writing burden a little. Here is my student’s writing about a country. She has studied English for 1year 5months with me. She is in the 5th grade.

1.     I want go the Japne.
2.     Beause Japne food is deilicous.
3.     Too Japene is many quake.
4.     And, Japece’s The cothes are pretty.
5.     And There are I have things to my lilking.

When she did her writing homework, she didn’t check her writing by herself. Every time I correct the words and grammar in class and she doesn’t double check her writing. I know that it doesn’t help her improve her writing. She needs a process to think her writing for herself, not through my correction.

There is a way to check the writing, it’s Word Processor in MS Word. But it’s not good for my elementary students. That’s why they don’t know what the right words and grammar is if the program gives them information of incorrect words and grammar.

So, here is a spelling and grammar checker on the internet. I will recommend Grammarly program. If my students download an app of Grammarly it can help them write. Of course, teacher's feedback is necessary.

some tools for class

1. Explain Everything

2. Nearpod

3. EDpuzzle

Canvas for class

kahoot for class

Kahoot is good for my students to concentrate for lesson and check their achievement with joy.
I make some quizzes about last lesson and they can check their answers  immediately with colorful image from the kahoo games.
Especially, my students liked the colors and simple mode. It helped them feel cheerful and have positive, aggressive attitudes.

But some students did't have cell phones they couldn't enjoy it.
There is another weakness that I can make only four-choice quizzes. It was too simple, easy for the upper grade of elementary school.

I hope that I can make quizzes with various types - ordering, matching and so on....

Band for class

I used Band program with a cell phone to communicate with my students.
I upload the Quzlet words for today's lesson, my student practice words with it.
Also, they ask some questions about the lesson through the Band.

I can post pictures, videos easily and take some polls. We can group talk as well as man to man talk.

Corpus in class

My students have some problems with usages of preposition. I decided to use the corpus site to solve this. There is so much information but it prevents elementary students from searching the data as well as reading it.

The font doesn't have any visual attraction for my elementary students. If they enter that site for searching and studying, they will click the button X without hesitatingly...

So, I have to make corpus material for my students, it's my new assignment. ^^

Schoology for my class (best CALL 3)

I have looked for ways to manage my students - LMS - but it's too expensive program and then I gave up searching it. But here is a free sites for LMS, Schoology! - In fact, it's not a traditional LMS, anyway it's a good tool for me.

I wanted my students to study English by themselves at home. So, I gave them some homework but it wasn't work. Because they copied their friends answers. I had a problem to know how to manage my students learning.

Schoology can make us communicate and create various materials for my class. Although I should spend more time to manage my students, but it is meaningful work.

Padlet for my class (best CALL 2)

Padlet is a good board maker for my class. I can create lessen resources easily. I don't need to make resources- text, video, picture- separately, it can made each resource collaboratively on just one board!

It's a really good tool~

Quizlet for my class (my best CALL)

I have used Quizlet a lot for my class and my students memorize the words through it. Especially they are satisfied with what they can listen the pronunciation of the words.
Quizlet helps my students know the meaning of the words quickly and easily with fun.

My students should take a test of 50 words every time, they have a trouble to memorize so much words for one day but the pressure of preparing 50 words test is decreasing after using the Quizlet.

My first Voki Voice~

Voice edit

I recorded the voice in my class. This boy was in 2nd grade.

Caillou - Caillou's Not Afraid Anymore (S01E02)

This video, Caillou, grade 1~4 students enjoy it. It is not difficult to understand the lines and stories. Students learn how to mimick the lines and then speak the lines like the characters. Some students have problems to say the lines because of the shyness.

But as time goes on, students have confidence more and more.

I want my students to enjoy various videos in English. English is not for studying, just enjoying itself~!!!

My first day!

Today is my first day to start blog ...I am so excited.
But I'm still confused about using this. Can I do this successfully?
I'm a kind of person - computer illiterate. I need some courage to overcome difficulties.
Go for it Alice~~
